Central Presbyterian's Vision

Know God; Grow in God; Go with God

God: The highest point of our church, our vision, and our logo is the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God is the creativity, the energy, and the vitality.  God is the starting point and the ending point; with whom everything begins and to whom everything returns.  In our vision statement God is repeated at the end of every phrase.  If God is not in our vision, we become like any other social organization, and we stop being the church.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone” Deuteronomy 6:4.

Pray: The center of the vision logo is PrayPrayer, both speaking and listening, is how we come to God and communicate with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.  Prayer to God is our sustenance to carry out the vision.  Everything about the vision and about our lives should be lifted to the Lord in Prayer.

“Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to Pray always” Luke 18:1.

Know God: We believe that this God, which is the goal of our vision, loves us and desires a relationship with us, so the first part of the vision of Central is to Know God.  We believe our Christian life begins with the most important decision we can make: to accept God’s invitation to have a relationship with him, which is possible only through the cross of Christ.  We use various names for this relationship: becoming a Christian, professing Christ, claiming Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, being born again, having a conversion experience.  We summarize all of these as answering the call to Know God.

“And this is eternal life, that they may Know you, the only true God” John 17:3.

Grow in God: The process of Knowing God is not a single act, but requires a lifetime.  We believe that as Christians we should always be Growing in our relationship with God, for which again we use various names: coming to Know God better, having a deeper relationship with God, having a closer walk with God.  One of the ways we Grow in God is through Bible study, which we may do to the end of our days, and need a magnifying glass, as illustrated on the logo.  We also Grow in God through Christian education, worship, fellowship, and Going with God

“But Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18.

Go with God: Knowing God and Growing in God should all be directed to Go with God.  We are the church to Go and serve others, and so serve God.  This includes various kinds of evangelism, giving, Praying, and mission work.  We do not Go on our own, but with the power of God and the presence of the Holy Spirit, seen in the dove and at the top of the logo.  By Going in God, we call others to Know God, and to Grow in God.  Thus, the vision becomes a perpetuating cycle.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am With you always, to the end of the age" Matthew 28:19-20.
